Code of Conduct Democratic AI

In the project “Code of Conduct Democratic AI”, D64 – Center for Digital Progress collaborated with more than 50 civil society organisations to create a voluntary commitment to the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI): the Code of Conduct Democratic AI. Our aim was to support civil society in finding an informed and reflective approach to AI. Thereby, we strengthen cooperation and engagement.

In four hybrid workshops held between June 2024 and November 2025, the participating organizations co-created a comprehensive orientation framework. This framework aims to provide targeted support for the responsible use of AI. In addition, three accompanying white papers examine the use of AI in line with the values of freedom, justice, and solidarity. The white papers offer practical recommendations. These enable organisations to understand their scope for action and reflect on their priorities when using AI.

The results are now available and offer concrete recommendations for action for civil society. Our Code of Conduct for Democratic AI is open for signatories, including companies and public institutions.
